London Lemon Old Fashioned

With every party I throw in the winter, I always include an Old Fashioned Bar. It's my absolute favorite cocktail and I love trying out new flavor combinations to theme them for my parties and events! This year I went down the rabbit hole of tea, brewing different combinations and turning them into flavored simple syrups, and the London Lemon Old Fashioned was born!

Honey Hibiscus Old Fashioned

Honey Hibiscus Old Fashioned

If I have a favorite cocktail, it has to be Old Fashioneds! I love whiskey and likewise adore a great cocktail that makes it shine, but more than that I love Old Fashioneds because they are super fun to experiment with. I’ve made some lovely maple themed ones for the holidays, but I wanted to create a summery floral option for my whiskey as the weather warms up. So I took a trip to my local tea store and started turning teas and honey into simple syrups for a fun floral Old Fashioned!

Pomegranate Pepper Infused Dirty Martini

Pomegranate Pepper Infused Dirty Martini

Now you might think pomegranate and peppercorns is a strange combo, but it turned out surprisingly delicious! While pomegranate seeds are both tart and sweet, the tartness definitely came through most with the black peppercorns adding a little heat in the aftertaste, giving a little edge to this underworld cocktail without taking away from the pomegranate or classic dirty martini vibes. The combination was a perfect Persephone cocktail, after all, pomegranate seeds are what kept her in the underworld and a little heat feels like a nod to the firey feel of most afterlife tales. Regardless if you love mythology or not, this cocktail will indulge your love of the dirty martini with some delicious new found flavors!

The Kinky Lemon Drop

kinky lemon drop.jpg

Every new venture should start with a toast and the start of this blog is no different!

The Lemon Drop is by far my favorite cocktail so reinventing it in a new (pinker) way seemed just the thing to kick this party off! The biggest challenge in creating this cocktail was the proportions of Kinky Liquor and Vodka, enough Kinky to make it a beautiful shade of pink but not so much that you lost the tartness of a traditional lemon drop.

Once I got the perfect combination, it just needed a little more pizazz so what better way than a girl's best friend, glitter! Rimming the Glass and adding a dash of edible Disco Glitter gave it just the sparkle it needed to be a truly memorable drink for any occasion.  The sugar glitter rim ended up being a little more involved than I originally thought so you will be able to see in detail how to make that in the next blog post!

Recipe:

2 oz. Kinky Liquor
1/2 oz Limoncello
1 oz Citrus Vodka
Disco Glitter for  Cocktail
Pink Sugar Glitter for rim

1. Rim the glasses with the pink sugar glitter mix by lining the glass edge with lemon juice or water and dipping it in sugar on a plate.
2. Add Kinky, Limoncello, and Vodka to a Cocktail shaker. Shake until thoroughly combined
3. Add to rimmed glass and sprinkle the top of the drink with additional glitter, enjoy!

Note: Glitter does tend to settle to the bottom and top of the glass so having stir sticks with each glass is helpful so that guests can keep their glitter "moving" around in their glasses.
